Toffee Bars

1 c butter, softened
1 c brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 t vanilla
2 c flour
1/4 t salt
6 regular-sized Hershey bars (or other similar chocolate bars)

Heat oven to 350.  Grease a 9x13 pan.

 Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.  Blend in sour and salt.  Press evenly in the bottom of the pan.  

Bake 25-30 minutes until light brown.  Remove.  Immediately place separated chocolate pieces on top.  (They will melt and become easily spreadable.)  Let sit 3-5 minutes, then spread with a knife.  Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.  Cut while warm.  Let cool, then remove from pan.
